Fifteen years ago, I started building the world of the Northern Realm. After self-publishing The Northern Realm RPG, I began creating adventures for it, but that work led me to hone in on what I really wanted from the game. This led me to completely break down the original and rebuild it into what I now call The Fire Burns Low.
The Fire Burns Low uses a level-less progression system, where characters bargain, declare oaths, and become cursed. Progression is more about change than about becoming more powerful. The world also took on stronger mystery and horror elements. I’m very happy with what I’ve made over the past decade, but there’s no chance of employing an artist the way I did for Northern Realm—the game world just got too big. So I’m going to come at it from another angle: I’ll post what I have on Patreon and keep building out adventures. If I can garner enough feedback and/or raise enough funds, I’ll flesh out the books with full art and publish them. If not, I’ll keep tinkering and writing adventures anyway.
At any rate, if you’re interested, check it out: The Fire Burns Low Patreon
I've uploaded the Beta versions of the three core books and the first adventure (four more to come).
